MY REVIEW

This 11th entry into the Fab & Madison Adventures in Paraidse series starts off in a whirlwind of activity, and it doesn't let up from there. Even if you have never read one of the Paradise novels prior, you will be swept up into the night and day personalites of Madison And Fab, detective extraordinairres. This go around, their recent lottery winner neighbor is murdered and their home is once again  hot bed of unwanted activity and attention. 

A series of break-ins coupled with threats on the lives of the two detectives beg them to find out if they are somehow connected to the murder. Meanwhile Madison is trying to fix the rocky relationship of Fab and her sexy boyfriend, Didier; and get her brother straightened out too.

Old and new characters join the mayhem, murder and yes, fun. There's plots and subplots, rich characters, action and intrigue throughout this storyline. You won't want to put it down. I didn't!

Book Excerpt

Fab hit the steering wheel with a closed fist. "I'm going to run that jerk off the road."

"No. You. Are. Not. And you're not going to shoot out his tires either." Though there was a zero chance of that happening. As talented as the hot, sexy woman was, she couldn't steer and shoot at the same time. "We'll act like normal people and call the police." Normal, I laughed to myself. I hadn't heard myself described that way in a long time. Mostly, I heard "weird" bandied about. An over-exaggeration - I'm familiar with weird, and that's not me.

"You better come up with something better than that." Fab pulled up alongside the truck on the driver's side.

I powered the window down and hung my head out, my hand in mid-air, ready to flag the man down, even though I knew that chances were slim that he'd pull over. Pulling my head back in the window, I said, "Change of plans." I pushed my red hair back into place, smoothing it down, certain it was a wind-whipped mess. "The fancy tow truck is one of Brick's."

Brick and I had a tenuous relationship; it was hard to trust him when I knew he never put Fab's safety first, or mine either. He opposed our relationship, knowing that several times I had convinced my daring friend to calm down and rethink her plan. As backup to Super PI Fab, there were few jobs that didn't include flying bullets and running for our lives. I was happy for the respite. So were our boyfriends,who'd had a face-to-face with Brick, laying down the rules: no more withholding details, and if it came out after the fact that he knew there was a high chance of danger, it would be the last mistake he would make. My boyfriend followed that up with a right cross to Brick's eye.

Fab made an outraged sound. "I don't believe you."

I've been writing, in one way or another for as long as I can remember; poetry, sappy short stories (my best friend made me swear that I’d never show anyone until I changed the names), and a romance novel shoved under my bed.

My Review

John Mefford’s Redemption Thriller Series includes amazing female leads Alex Troutt and Ivy Nash, and this newest submission is just as incredible as the rest. Ivy Nash, champion of lost children, is back in play. Nash has left public employment with child services to start run her own agency, ECHO, helping locate lost children, with her teenage side-kick, Cristina. And is still at the pinnacle of adventure, mystery and saving kids where agencies cannot.

In this book Ivy helps a grandfather find his lost grandson who was sent into foster care, split from his siblings. Ivy follows her own instincts to rescue him, just for another of the children, in different foster care to go missing. This time she has to rely on completely different and unexpected resources to find this one. She finds herself in unforeseen circumstances. Again.

Mefford is amazing at writing incredible heroines and fleshing out incredible support characters. Every book stands alone, but if you read the whole series you will love them even more.

Q: What do the Ivy Nash Thrillers have to do with the Redemption Thriller Series?

JWM: The Ivy Nash Thrillers comprise the second sub-series in the Redemption Thriller Series. The Alex Troutt Thrillers are the first sub-series. While I'll eventually write a series that connects the major characters and plots from all the sub-series, you don't have to read the AT books prior to the IN books. But I have to say, the AT thrillers are darn good.

Q: So you're saying you don't have to read the Alex Troutt Thrillers before the Ivy Nash Thrillers?

JWM: Nope. While a few of the characters might occasionally overlap between the series, they can be read as stand-alone. And then I'll wrap everything up in a final set of six novels that connects all of the main characters and stories from each sub-series. If you haven't read any of the Alex Troutt thrillers yet, you can try out the first three at a pretty nice discount. Just search for Alex Troutt Box Set.

Q: Can you give some insight into how Ivy Nash might connect to Alex Troutt down the line?

MY REVIEW

Although Ivy Nash has separated from Child Protective Services, she is still in the business of protecting children. Now self-employed, Ivy runs a agency, ECHO,finding lost children, which is how she gets drawn into the case of the missing parents. Her singular employee, Christina, a young tough street wise girl, is aiding her in investigating the disappearance of the parents of one of her acquaintances from the streets. Ivy's other continuous investigation is that of a psycho serial killer who leaves clues on his murder victims lower backs with hints from Ivy's past. Her police detective pal, Stan, shows up in Book 2 to keep her connected to this investigation. 

She knows this serial murder is somehow connected to her past and Stan, is sure that these murders are connected to Ivy's own kidnapping from a few months ago. Locating Anika, the runway's, parents has it's own set of twists and turns for both Ivy and Christina.

Two fully active story lines run smoothly through this mystery, and keep the reader on the edge of the seat, following both with both angst and excitement. Will the serial killer be one step ahead of Ivy and allude detection yet again? How dark and sadistic is this murderous villain? Will Anika's parents be found and what secrets will be uncovered on the path? Most of all, is anybody safe?

The relationships between the characters are well thought out, the action is fast paced, and the story lines are well written. It is apparent that there is some overlap with the Alex Troutt series, and that is great for Mefford fans. I feel like I have come further into Ivy Nash's world and I like it. I cannot wait for Book 3 in the IN series.

Review: Hurricane In Paradise by Deborah Brown

My Review

Deborah Brown is back with Book 10 in the Paradise Series with a Hurricane, and the metaphoric title is apt. The action is fast paced and jolting, but there is always fun and humor with the Florida Keys clan.

Whether you are a fan of the series or a new reader, this is a great humorous mystery, which is one of my favorite kinds. Madison Westin and her partner in crime-solving, Fab Merceau are in for a tumultuous adventure full of danger, and who knows where the wind will blow them; literally. After a hurricane forces evacuation, Madison returns to the house from which her boyfriend had to drag her out of to safety to find squatters – with squatter’s rights! She has to take them to court to get her property back. In the midst of all of that, the main squatter is found dead behind one of her rental properties, and her #1 suspect.  

The Paradise series is full of wonderfully rounded characters, and Madison’s lawyer grandmother who shows up for a visit in the midst of this newest mysterious debacle does not disappoint! Of course, her mom and mom’s beau, Jimmy Spoon (yes the name is befitting), plus both detectives steamy dreamy boyfriends are on deck for this caper, and race, to clear Madison’s name.

Brown’s writing is fast paced, and delivers well. I’m always envisioning the action between Fab and Madison and anticipating the next move, delighted by their skill and wit. Unexpected twists and surprise characters keep me on edge and wanting more. Each new edition to the series is a plum.

About the Author

I've been writing, in one way or another for as long as I can remember; writing poetry, short stories, a romance novel secretly stashed under the bed and sappy love letters. Fiction should be fun. I wanted to create the perfect beach book, to make the reader laugh, cry and cheer... and then run out and tell their friends about it.

My love of reading began when I was seven, the day I opened the cover of my first Mrs. Piggle Wiggle book. Mrs. P gave lessons to other children in how to behave and to me I learned to love the written word. I live with my family and demon children aka rescue cats in South Florida.
